WELZIE BIO

Combining the craftsmanship of building surfboards and artistic imagination, Welzie creates unique pieces of art inspired by his surfing lifestyle and bright Hawaii surroundings. His uplifting use of color and imagery along with his whimsical process of fiberglass, resin and ink medium have gained international attention.

As a teenager immersed in the surfing culture, Welzie landed a job at a local surfboard manufacturer. His passion for art followed, using paint pens to draw images on the surfboards he created. A decade later the surfboards and art collided when he and surfboard shaper, Carl Olsen started Two Crows Surfboards. A collaboration that allowed for complete artistic freedom which brought his inspiring surf medium from the waves into gallery walls in the form of his Resin Art and Sculptures

Welzie’s work is being shown in Hawaii, Japan, California, Las Vegas and New York. He has collaborated on projects with leading artists such as Maya Hayuk and Heather Brown. He also paints large murals hidden around Hawaii, California and Mexico. Welzie has been a featured artist for the Greenroom Festival in Japan and the world famous Pow Wow mural event here in Hawaii.

Welzie works out of his studio in South Maui.
